Before his election to the Assembly, Assemblymember Huffman was a former senior attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and member of the Marin Municipal Water District Board of Directors. Prior to joining NRDC, Assemblymember Huffman was an attorney specializing in public interest cases. Among his court victories was a historic case on behalf of the National Organization for Women, which required all California State University campuses to comply with Title IX, creating new athletic opportunities for thousands of female scholar-athletes throughout California.

He graduated magna cum laude from the University of California - Santa Barbara and graduated cum laude from Boston College Law School. Prior to law school, Assemblyman Huffman was a three-time NCAA All-American athlete and member of the world-champion United States Volleyball Team. He lives in San Rafael with his wife, Susan, and their two children.

The growing trend in the US market is to become environmentally conscientious, as companies respond to consumer interest in environmental issues and consumers demand more environmentally friendly products and services. Assembly member Jared Huffman will talk about why going green is good for business in terms of the ecological, social and economic benefits. Central to his talk will be AB32 legislation and other current and forthcoming legislation – its potential for giving California businesses a chance to lead a change in the way we conduct business, the way we innovate and design products, and the way we think about the role of business in society. This session will give a public sector perspective on private sector opportunities.
