NCRA, www.ncrarecycles.org, is a non-profit trade organization of recycling businesses, community groups, municipalities and individuals. We promote waste reduction, reuse, salvaging, recycling and composting as vital tools for resource and energy conservation and as cost-effective, environmentally sound methods of disposing of discarded materials.

NCRA vice president Portia Sinnott is a Zero Waste Consultant and ED of LITE Initiatives, www.liteinitiatives.org. LITE is a Sonoma County based activist group that promotes simple, sustainable practices with significant consequences. Our four programs - Car-Lite, Community Bikes, Living Green and Zero Waste Sonoma County, all promote safety, sharing and the development of DIY - Do It Your Self, skills.

Sustainability Achievements:
NCRA and LITE, along with the City of San Francisco Department of the Environment, are the non-profit sponsors of the Zero Waste Brain Trust, http://zwbraintrust.wordpress.com. ZWBT is an informal coalition of resource management professionals and others committed to the transition to a world without waste. Starting in California, we are creating a world-wide collaborative network that supports the development of systems that work well for all stakeholders – residents, businesses, service providers, workers, neighbors, jurisdictions and regulators.
Sustainability Challenges:
Greed, over-consumption, inertia, fear of change and the assumption that technology will save us all.
