California MENTOR is the largest and most well-respected family home agency in California and we have been working to make a difference in the lives of people with developmental disabilities since 1997.  Our mission is to offer adults innovative, quality services and supports that lead to growth and independence, regardless of the physical, intellectual or behavioral challenges that they face.  Our philosophy emphasizes partnerships and enables people with developmental disabilities to shape the direction of their own lives in community based settings. 

Our organization recruits individuals and families who want make a difference by opening their hearts and homes to those with special needs.  We provide all of the training at no cost and prepare our Mentors to become certified caregivers in about 4 to 6 weeks.  Our extensive 'matching' process ensures the best possible fit for everyone involved and after placement, our Mentors receive monthly stipends that range from about $1,100 to $1,900 (non-taxable) per client with a maximum of two clients per home.

Sustainability Achievements: 
We have enhanced the lives of thousands of people with developmental disabilities and helped to establish new and often lifelong family relationships for people who have often been treated as 'less than' in society.
Sustainability Challenges: 
Reducing paper consumption is a major challenge because we are required to maintain hardcopies on everything that we do.
