Pam Su

Pam Su is currently the Director of Campus Recreation at Sonoma State University, but has been with the university’s non-profit auxiliary, the Sonoma Student Union Corporation, for almost 20 years.  After discovering her love for recreation as a soccer, basketball, and volleyball player while growing up, she received her BA in Human Physiology from UC Berkeley, and MS in Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance from Eastern Michigan University.

She was part of the design and development team for SSU’s Recreation Center, which opened in 2004 as one of the country’s greenest recreation centers at the time. Her long-time goals have been to promote, through recreation, student development and wellness, of which sustainability is a major component.

Pam has given several presentations at national conferences on incorporating sustainable design in recreation centers, and greening rec center operations.  She currently serves as Chair of the Sustainability Committee for the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) and as NIRSA’s Liaison to the Higher Education Associations Sustainability Consortium (HEASC).  She writes a monthly sustainability column for NIRSA’s on-line newsletter, and hopes to be a part of transforming collegiate recreation’s role in sustainability education.  Her interests include white water kayaking, mt. biking, and growing things in her garden.
